There are two kinds of caulk gun in this line and the split is technical, not a price tier. Which one you want is decided by how thick the material is, so we colour coded it. Red runs the thinner caulks. Blue runs the thick ones.
Why this one
Let go of the trigger and the rod releases, so the pressure inside the cartridge drops instead of sitting there pushing. On a thinner caulk that is the difference between a clean stop and a bead that keeps running after you have moved on. Thin material flows on its own. The gun's job is to stop asking it to.
Thick material is the other case. It barely moves without real force, so a gun that spends part of its stroke relieving pressure gives away the thrust you wanted in the joint. That is the blue side, where the 360-DT switches up to 26:1.

How the drip-free rod works
Let go of the trigger and the rod lets go with it. The bead stops when you stop.
The cartridge does not keep oozing between pulls, so the joint stays clean and you get the whole tube.
If you have only used ratchet guns, that release can feel like the rod has come loose. It has not. That is the drip-free mechanism doing its job.
If you want a rod that holds its pressure until you flip it, that is a ratchet gun. Our 188 and 307 both work that way.
Where It Is The Wrong Gun
A gun that is wrong for the material fights you the whole way down the joint. These are the jobs to reach for something else.
- Not for thick material. Window & Door wants sustained thrust, and a mechanism that spends part of its stroke relieving pressure is giving that thrust away
- Not a dual-ratio gun. There is one thrust setting, and at 10:1 it is the lightest in the line
- Not for sausage packs or bulk. This is a 10 oz cartridge frame
